The Classic Fast Car

Muscle cars is a term that refers to high performance cars that are usually two-door with rear wheel drive. Normally, it makes reference to American cars such as the Chevelle SS, Corvette, Dodge Charger, and Camaro. These were the popular cars in the 1960s and 70s. Metro Detroit has car shows every year to model the classics and they choose the top ten.

The idea of the muscle car came about in the 1950s. Detroit felt that if the designs of cars were more streamlined and lightweight, the horsepower would be able to move the car faster. One of the first real classics was the 1957 Chevy with the tailfins. There was none like it then and it is still popular today. Ford tried to copy with their Thunderbird, which was classy but not the match. The owners of these muscle cars also became popular with the girls. In the Fifties, with a hot rod car and a two dollar bill, you could go anywhere and do anything. Unfortunately, that's hardly the case now since the two dollars won't even buy a gallon of gas.

Corvettes were born and the speedsters thought they had seen heaven. The Corvette is also still a popular car today. What made the Corvette even faster was the fact that it was made out of fiberglass. A super lightweight body gave super power. Even now, speed rules and the popularity of fast cars will never go away.
