The Chevy Nova II as a Muscle Car

The Chevy Nova II has always been considered a muscle car, with the exception of its first year in 1962. When Chevy first came out with the Nova II, it came with a four cylinder or a six cylinder engine. In order to be considered a muscle car, it had to come with a V8 engine. In 1963, Chevy added a V8 engine to the Nova II, making it officially a muscle car. This made the car very attractive to drag racing enthusiasts. The car was smaller than most muscle cars and now came with a high performance engine. Due to the fact that it was lightweight, it fared well in drag racing.

Typically, a muscle car was a two door sedan that came with a high performance engine. All muscle cars came with rear wheel drive. It would be kind of hard to do a burn-out in a car with front wheel drive. Their motive was to attract those young male gear-heads who loved drag racing but couldn't afford a Corvette. Many people believe that the 1963 Chevy Nova II kicked off the drag racing craze. In 1969, Chevy dropped the roman numeral II from the name and the car was known as the Chevy Nova from that time forward.

For some reason, Chevy produced the Nova in intervals, from 1962 to 1974, 1975 to 1979, and 1985 to 1988. The car came with the option of a convertible only in the years 1962 and 1963. Maybe Chevy thought it wasn't such a good idea to sell a convertible drag racing car. Hard tops were an option from 1962 to 1965. The Chevy Nova II remains popular today.
