Ultimate Muscle: The Buick GS

The muscle car era of the late ‘60s and early ‘70s had a lot cars competing with each other. They were small size to medium size and even some large vehicles. The V8 engines are what help make a muscle car.

The GS model that Buick made was the fastest muscle car in the years between 1967 and 1972. Buick didn’t make too many models in those years, but they succeeded in making one of the greatest. The biggest motor allowed at the time was the 401 placed in the Buick Skylark. The Buick GS held the fastest time for the quarter mile. The rest of the Buick models made were nearly as fast even though they weren’t that many different models made in the muscle car era. The 401 had to be reduced to a 400, then added bigger cams and other moderation to keep it in the group of the muscle cars. In the 1970 Buick and other muscle cars, manufacturers made quite a few changes to improve looks and performance in there cars. For the Buick GS, there was a limited option of colors to choose from for the GSX . There were three stages of Buick muscle cars; first the ’69, then ’70, the fastest of the three, and lastly the ‘71, which was where the performance slipped a bit. The invention of unleaded fuel didn’t help the muscle cars very much.

The year of 1970 was the year Buick made one of the fastest cars ever: The Buick GSX Stage one. The Buick GS was one of the fastest muscle cars on the road, according to the magazine “Motor Trend.”
