The GM muscle cars are now best known as the most collectible cars in history. These cars not only look mean and fierce, but are fast and intimidating to any other car on the road, even today. The GM muscle cars are very valuable and have a short but well known history. The GM muscle car had quite a growth during the ten years of their prime.
The GM muscle cars were born in the 1960s and seem to have faded only 10 to 15 years later in the middle of the 1970s. The main reason was the 1973 O.P.E.C. oil embargo, which caused oil production to fall 25 to 30 percent and created much chaos at the gas pumps. Another reason could have been the growing and tough environmental laws being made, as well as insurance premiums.
With the birth of the Chevelle in 1964, there was nothing but inspiration and more ideas to follow. Not soon after in 1967, the Chevrolet Camaro was born. The second generation of the Chevrolet Camaro came in February 1970. In the year 2001, General Motors stopped making two of their renowned muscle cars, the Chevrolet Camaro and the Pontiac Firebird. Both of these models sold an amazing number of cars in 1978. The Chevrolet Camaros sold two hundred and sixty thousand models and the Firebirds sold one hundred and seventy five thousand cars. Other famous cars made were the GTO, Skylark, Cutlass, Tempest, Impala, Monte Carlo, and El Camino. The last true muscle car made was the Pontiac Trans Am SD455 in 1973-1974.
